EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Charles Robert Marshall, 90, of East Prairie died Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Charles Robert Marshall, 90, of East Prairie died Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 11, 1926, in Kennett, Missouri, to the late Robert E. and Bessie A. Chailand Marshall.

Charles served as a member of the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II and was a member of the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He was a self-employed farmer. He was an active member of First Church of God in East Prairie and served on the board of the SEMO Electric Co-Op from 1984 to 2011.

On Sept. 1, 1951, in San Francisco, he married Gwendoline Jean Porter, who survives of the home.

Additional survivors include two sons, Steven Marshall of Madison, Tennessee, and Jack Jewell of Redwood City, California; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Steve Glenn of Cape Girardeau; and two sisters, Robbie Eastman and Barbara Byrum, both of Cape Girardeau. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Shonna Slaughter, Jonathan (Lisa) Marshall, Kyle Marshall, Leslie Marshall, Shelby Marshall, Andrea Glenn Story, Sarah (Clayton) Carbaugh and Bradley (Dianna) Glenn; and nine great-grandchildren, Kenzie Slaughter, Ty Wallace, Marshall Story, Cary McClure Story, Sophie Grace Carbaugh, Jackson Lee Glenn, Colton Lee Glenn, Stella Jane Carbaugh and Olivia Ann Glenn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bob "Bobby" Marshall; four brothers, Van J. Marshall, John Marshall, Edward Marshall and Herbert Marshall; and three sisters, Evelyn Marshall, Inez Marshall and Peggy Adkisson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at First Church of God in East Prairie.

The funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Brother Larry Smith and Brother Paul Matte officiating. Interment will be at noon Thursday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with full military honors provided by the Missouri Navy Military Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Keith Marshall, Todd Marshall, Charlie Van Marshall, Brent Eastman, Bart Byrum, Eddie Adkisson, Kirk Adkisson and Gary Adkisson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Gemeinhardt, Billy Bard, Brad Hequembourg, R.L. Richards, Milus Mainord, Fieldin LaPlant, Shirley Chambers, Eddie Stockman, Richard Walters, Keith Walters and Kevin Walters.
