SCOPUS, Mo. -- Tivis Cook, 95, of Scopus passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at Woodland Hills Nursing Home.

He was born April 27, 1921, in Kennett, Missouri, son of Homer Walker and Carrie Hanners Cook. He and Annie Sutherland were united in marriage Nov. 9, 1945, and she preceded him in death March 21, 1989.

Tivis was very active in bluegrass music, where he was known as "Dancin' Tivis, have shoes will travel" for his clog dancing. He worked as a lineman for the International Shoe Co. for 32 years and attended Haynes Chapel Congregational Methodist Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Kay (Wayne) Hanners of Marble Hill, Missouri; daughter-in-law Ernestine Strong of Marble Hill; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Mulley Strong; and a grandson, Mike "Turtle" Strong.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Ray Mills and Scott Cook officiating. Burial will be in Cook Cemetery in Scopus.
