ADVANCE, Mo. -- Lawrence Ray Matney, 83, of Advance passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at his home.

He was born April 27, 1933. Lawrence and Evelyn Habade were united in marriage Dec. 24, 1951, and she preceded him in death Sept. 15, 2014.

Lawrence was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from the Missouri Department of Transportation. He also had been a self-employed carpenter.

He enjoyed riding his Honda Goldwing trike.

Lawrence attended Cottage of Grace Church in Marble Hill, Missouri. He had taught Sunday school for many years. He impacted many young people's lives with the teachings of God. He also was a church song leader.

Lawrence was an avid collector of classic cars. He spent many hours restoring his cars to compete in car shows. This was a hobby Lawrence, his wife, Evelyn, and their son, Michael, enjoyed doing together. Lawrence won many trophies over the years with his classic cars. In a true testament to Lawrence's character, he sold all of his beloved classic cars and donated all of the money to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. His cars had given him and his family so much pride and joy over the years, and now they are helping so many children and their families in their time of need.

Survivors include a cousin and friend, Rodney Redman of East Prairie, Missouri, and a host of other friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sons, Michael Matney and twin sons that passed away at birth; and a daughter-in-law, Camille Matney.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Monnie Jones officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance, with full military rites.
