ADVANCE, Mo. -- Wanda L. Jenkins, 89, of Advance passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at Advance Assisted Living.

Wanda was born Feb. 18, 1927, at Advance, the daughter of Oscar and Nelle Cawthon Tippett.

Wanda was a 1944 graduate of Advance High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from Southeast Missouri State University. She taught fifth grade at Advance Elementary School for 30 years, touching the lives of many students. She was known for participating in recess activities with her students.

Wanda was a longtime member of Hidden Trails Country Club in Dexter, Missouri, and Crowley Ridge Country Club in Bloomfield, Missouri. She was an avid golfer and proud to claim three holes-in-one.

Wanda was a member of Advance United Methodist Church.

Wanda and William Jenkins were united in marriage Jan. 13, 1947, and he preceded her in death June 21, 2002.

Survivors include a son, William Anthony (Liana) Jenkins of Advance; a sister, Mary Jo Murray of South Kingstown, Rhode Island; six grandchildren, Kathy (Chris) Kirkman of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Kristi (Jeff) Naught of Jefferson City, Missouri, Erin (Jordan) Seabaugh of Advance, Andrew (Keri) Jenkins of Advance, William Foster of Kennewick, Washington, and Terry Foster of Hutchinson, Kansas; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Nancy Jill Foster; and two sisters, Claudine Lorch and Nelline Myers.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Willer officiating. Burial will be at Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Advance United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
