Lane Dennis Fabrick, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at his home.

He was born May 5, 1941, in Elgin, Illinois. His mother was Ruth Fern Adams of Elgin and his father Stanley Stephen Fabrick of Spring Valley, Illinois. On April 1, 1967, he married Patricia Dugan in Bartlett, Illinois.

Lane graduated from Elgin High School in 1958. He attended Elgin Community College from 1959 to 1961. He studied at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb from 1961 to 1964, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in art education. From 1964 to 1965, he earned a Master of Arts in painting/design from Northern Illinois.

He was an instructor of art at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro from 1969 to 1974. He served as a gallery director and instructor of drawing at Northern Illinois from 1974 to 1975.

Lane was an assistant professor of art at Southeast Missouri State University from 1976 to 2001. He was promoted to full professor at Southeast in 2001.

He retired in 2006 after being at Southeast for 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Fabrick of Cape Girardeau; a son, Darin (Jackie) Fabrick of Portland, Oregon; a grandchild, Chloe; a sister-in-law, Anita Dugan of Shell Lake, Wisconsin; a nephew, Cailen (Jennifer) Rock of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; a niece, Jenna Rock of Shell Lake; and his mother-in-law, Martha Dugan of Shell Lake.

He was proceeded in death by his parents.

A private memorial with family will be held.

Lane loved creating art, and he enjoyed teaching. He loved playing guitar and listening to rockabilly music, as well as dancing. He was an advocate for the Greyhound Association and for all animals.

Memorial contributions may be given to Greyhound Pets of America or the animal shelter of your choice.
