WYATT, Mo. — Two people are facing charges after a shooting that injured a sheriff’s deputy and a suspect during a narcotics investigation.

WYATT, Mo. — Two people are facing charges after a shooting that injured a sheriff’s deputy and a suspect during a narcotics investigation.

Johnathan Lee Jones, 36, of Wyatt is charged with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

Jones is recovering in a hospital after surgery because of shooting injuries. He is in critical but stable condition.

Jessica N. Lannom, 29, is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance.

Lannom is being held at the Mississippi County Jail without bond.

About 9 a.m. Friday, deputies with the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant for a narcotics investigation at a residence on Pecan Street in Wyatt.

When the deputies entered the residence, Jones began shooting toward the deputies and the deputies returned fire. During the exchange of gunfire, both the suspect and one deputy were struck.

The deputy and Jones were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries; both have undergone surgery.

The deputy is reported to be in stable condition, Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Clark Parrott said.

At the request of Mississippi County Sheriff Corey Hutcheson, the Highway Patrol is investigating the shooting.
