Wesley D. Rees, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at his home. He was born June 11, 1927, in Mound City, Illinois, to Albert L. and Zelma Hefner Rees. Wesley D. Rees, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at his home.

He was born June 11, 1927, in Mound City, Illinois, to Albert L. and Zelma Hefner Rees. He and Nancy O'Howell were married July 31, 1948, at Piggott, Arkansas.

Wesley worked as a carpenter most of his adult life, including working for Otis Adams, Ben Sides, Crites and Seiler construction companies, and retiring from Drury Construction Co. after working for them for more than 25 years. He was a retired member of Carpenters Local No. 1770.

He loved the outdoors, boating and traveling. Wesley always loved to help people and make them smile.

When he was physically able, he attended First General Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau faithfully.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Rees of Cape Girardeau; a son, Gary (Anne) Rees of Jackson; a daughter, Ruth Ann (Steve) Lane of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Traci (Russ) Allbritton, Sara (Nick) Hobeck and Lisa Lane Quigley; great-grandchildren, David (Shannon) Sturm, Allison, Kaitlyn and Matthew Sturm, Aubrey and Lincoln Hobeck and Addison Quigley; and two great-great-grandchildren, Paisley and Zoey Sturm.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Sidney and his twin brother Lesley K. Rees; and two sisters, Murl Cutright and Ada Tilley.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Rudolph officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to First General Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau.
