Maybe I am missing something, but all I hear is how the bad, bad insurance companies are charging higher and higher premiums. There is a simple reason that I don't hear anyone talking about. It doesn't take a very smart person to realize the reason behind the increased premiums is the cost of health care. When cancer patients pay thousands and thousands of dollars for one dose of medication, or a simple emergency room visit for a kidney stone is $10,000, and unbelievable charges for a hospital stay and thousands for a surgery. This is what is driving insurance premiums up, not the insurance companies. If the government wants to get healthcare back to a manageable costs, and get into some type of regulation, the first visit they need to make is what is driving up the costs, not the insurance companies.
