Margie Waldrup

Margie Marie Waldrup, 95, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017, at The Lutheran Home.

She was born April 17, 1922, in Cape Girardeau to the late Dewey and Emma Kirchhoff Reynolds. Ray Waldrup and Margie Reynolds met at the Marquette Hotel where Ray was a bellhop and Margie was a switchboard operator and secretary. They were married Sept. 6, 1942, in Fort Riley, Kansas. Margie and Ray had been married 70 years and nine months when Ray passed away June 10, 2013. Margie and Ray, along with their two sons, were charter members of St. Andrew Lutheran Church.

Margie had a great love for family, cooking, reading, traveling and music.

Her family enjoyed great meals and desserts, and she took joy in recreating food she had in restaurants. She played keyboard in bands, the Golden Slippers and The Bob Rosenquist Band to name the most recent. She also played piano for the Missouri Veterans Home and The Lutheran Home while she was still in good health, often joined by Vince Seyer as vocalist. In her travels, she had the opportunity to play with well-known bands and in interesting venues.

Also, Margie had a wonderful sense of humor. Donna called her "My Little Joan Rivers" for the witty and comical things she would say.

She was preceded in death by a son, Clayton Mark Waldrup; her parents; her brother, Howard Reynolds; and her sister, Delores Reynolds Estes.

Margie is survived by her son, Lonnie Waldrup and daughter-in-law Donna Waldrup of Kelso, Missouri; a granddaughter, Bridget Waldrup Benson and her husband, Daniel, of Yankton, South Dakota; and three great-grandsons, Collin, Cayden and Parker. Also, Margie is survived and loved by many of her extended Kirchhoff family who she always held close to her heart.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, and prior to the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Dehne officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
