Virginia Lee Tripp, 92, of Jackson passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the Monticello House in Jackson.

The oldest of two daughters, Virginia was born Aug. 27, 1924, in Neelys Landing to Dale and Maud Medlock Gohn.

A young bride of 15, she married Leonard Tripp on May 18, 1940, in Jackson. Five children were born to their union. They had been married nearly 62 years when Leonard passed away April 15, 2002.

Virginia attended the former Oak Hill Grade School between Neelys Landing and Pocahontas.

She was a devoted wife, mom and grandma to her large family and especially enjoyed the holiday gatherings they shared. Some of her favorite activities were camping, fishing, gardening, canning, reading her Bible, feeding hummingbirds, crocheting and quilting, making quilts for all 12 grandchildren.

Virginia cherished the friendships she made during her lifelong membership at New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahontas.

Loving survivors include five children, Frank (Diana) Tripp, Pauline (Andy) Skelly and Louis (Sharon) Tripp, all of Jackson, Margaret Briscoe of Arnold, Missouri, and Carol (Ernie) Kon of St. Louis; 11 grandchildren, Leann Tripp, Kevin Launius, Karen Hill, Teresa Pickles, Tracy Schulte, Melinda Rafferty, Carolyn Launius, Lori Schulte, Brandon Pace, Ernie Kon and Jennifer LaVelle; 21 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby Cook of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a granddaughter, Kathy DePuy.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to service time Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ken Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to New Bethel Baptist Church.
