Antoinette “Toni” McLain, 76, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Southeast Hospital.
She was born Nov. 17, 1940, in Cape Girardeau County, daughter of Rueben and Lucy Reynolds Whittaker. She and John McLain were married Aug. 30, 1958, in Cape Girardeau.
Toni was a member of Red Star Baptist Church and attended Cape Girardeau Central High School.
She worked at Superior Electric before becoming a cake decorator at the former Childs IGA. She also taught cake decorating at the Cape Girardeau Area Vocational Technical School for a number of years. She loved camping and doll collecting, but her passion was her grandchildren, especially her favorite grandson John.
Loving survivors include her husband of 58 years, John McLain; two sons, Rickie McLain of Cape Girardeau and Wade (Jan) McLain of Light House Point, Florida; four grandchildren, Megan, Kristen, John and Natalie McLain; and a sister, Retha Popp of Cape Girardeau.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Russell and Nelson McLain; four sisters, Wilma Masters, Maxine Swanner, Dorris Berry and Peggy Blaylock; and two brothers, Floyd “Bud” and Richard Whittaker.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Minister Jordan Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
