Stanley Eugene “Gene” Vaughn, 82, of Cape Girardeau went to be with our Lord and Savior at 11 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2017, at Fountainbleau Lodge, with his daughter, Gina, at his side.
Gene was born May 17, 1935, in Ashley, Illinois, to Claude and Clara Pierjok Vaughn. They preceded him in death. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Sue Mullins, on Aug. 15, 1966. She also preceded him in death.
Surviving are daughter, Gina (Darryl) LeGrand of Cape Girardeau; son, Chris (Rosana) Vaughn of Whitney, Texas; daughter, Cindy (Tom) Atkins of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughter, Cathy (Aman) Al Samariay of St. Louis; son, Stanley (Terri) Vaughn of Indianapolis; daughter, Tammy (David) Carte of Shelbyville, Indiana; and son, Greg (Bonnie) Vaughn of Greenfield, Indiana; 19 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Gene also is survived by three sisters, Dorothy (Kenneth) Vance of Nashville, Illinois, Martha (Tom) Novak of Elephant Butte, New Mexico, and June George of Nashville; and one brother, the Rev. John (Connie) Vaughn of Pekin, Illinois. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who were dear to him.
Gene spent much of his life working in the dry-cleaning business in several communities in central and Southern Illinois, as well as in Cape Girardeau, where he and Marilyn chose to retire.
Gene loved being outdoors, and in his retirement years he loved to mow and trim yards until he was no longer able.
Gene loved the Lord. He spent much of his free time reading his Bible, studying, meditating and interceding in prayer for others. He was a generous and giving person all of his life. He was a member of Christ Church of the Heartland in Cape Girardeau.
His visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Church of the Heartland, 720 Bertling St. in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Zack Strong as the officiant. Entombment will follow the service at Cape County Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
