Vernon A. Lichtenegger, 74, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at his home.
He was born Aug. 10, 1942, in Cape Girardeau to Arthur T. and Marie L. Koeberl Lichtenegger.
A lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, Vernon was baptized Aug. 23, 1942, and confirmed May 20, 1956, at the church. He attended school in Pocahontas.
Vernon and Judy Scaggs were married May 6, 1967, at First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. They resided on the family farm.
In addition to farming, Vernon worked several years at Rubbermaid in Jackson, retiring in 2008.
Loving survivors include his wife of 50 years, Judy Lichtenegger of Jackson; four children, Randy, Todd and Ryan Lichtenegger of Jackson and Tammy Lichtenegger (Tommy Long) of Columbia, Missouri; four grandchildren, Lindsey and Lauren Lichtenegger of Jackson, and Dylan Lichtenegger and Aubrey Long of Columbia; a sister, Dorothy (Herbert) Leimer of Jackson; and a brother-in-law, Joe (the late Marjorie) Leimer of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marjorie Leimer.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 11:30 a.m. to service time Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Lawrence Bradt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. John's Lutheran Church.
