MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Marilyn Kay Freeman, 75, of Marble Hill, formerly of Jackson, passed away Monday, Dec. 25, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Jan. 2, 1942, daughter of Rex and Lucille Urhahn Dempster. She and Philip Freeman were married Sept. 30, 1967. He survives.

Marilyn was a 1963 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. She was a physical-education teacher at Marvin Elementary School in the St Louis area from 1963 to 1971.

She served as a secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson and was an activity director at several nursing facilities in the Jackson and Cape Girardeau area, including Jackson Manor. Marilyn retired in 2008.

She was a devoted wife and mother and was a mom to many other boys.

Loving survivors include her husband, Philip Freeman of Marble Hill; a son, Chris (Julie) Freeman of Bogard, Missouri; two grandchildren, Easton Freeman and Samantha Collins; an aunt; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Charlie Hale; and grandparents.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

A memorial service will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
