Ronald R. Smith of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Anna, Illinois, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, at age 74.

He was born Sept. 25, 1943, in Mill Creek, Illinois, the son of Harold and Edna Wright Smith. He married Peggy Poole on May 26, 1961, in Mill Creek.

Ronald worked for Procter & Gamble for many years before retiring. He was known as "The Man with a Plan."

Ronald is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Peggy Smith of Cape Girardeau; son, Donald Smith of Whitewater; daughters, Sheila "Sis" (David) McKee of Dongola, Illinois, Pam (Rick) Bueter of Glennon, Missouri, Tamra (Ken) Riley of Huntsville, Alabama, and Jenna (Shell) Duskey of Dongola; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley (Jim) Vines and Shielda Wheaton, both of Anna; other relatives; and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Frank Wheaton; and twin brother, Donald "Tex" Smith.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Illinois.

Funeral service for Ronald R. Smith will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Ferris and Richard Webb officiating. Interment will be in the St. John's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
