THEBES, Ill. -- Jackie Lee Kaufman Sr., 78, of Thebes died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at his home.

He was born Dec. 19, 1939, in McClure, Illinois, to Johnny E. and Ella Mae Burchyett Kaufman. He married Mary Jo Carner on June 2, 1961.

He worked at Griffaw Furniture for 29 years and worked construction until retirement.

Jack was a member of the Alexander Free Will Baptist Church at Thebes, serving as a deacon the last 50 years. He was a member of the Caledonia Lodge No. 47 and faithfully served on the Lindsey Cemetery Board for many years.

Jack is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Kaufman; son, Jackie Lee Kaufman Jr.; daughter, Sabrina LuAnn (Greg) McAllister; three grandchildren, Christopher Lee Kaufman, Joshua Craig (Brittany) Kaufman and Austin Lee McAllister; four great-grandchildren, Rachel Leigh Kaufman, Christian Blake Kaufman, Faith Christine Kaufman and Easton James Kaufman; four brothers, John (Roberta) Kaufman, Donnie (Joanie) Kaufman, Lloyd (Kay) Kaufman and Curtis Jacobs; four sisters, Laverne (Earl) Benefield, Roberta (Jack) Stevens, Marcia (Jimmy) Scherer and Judy Sander; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas "T.D." and Bill Kaufman; and a sister, Mary Watson.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with Masonic Rights accorded at 7 p.m. by Caledonia Lodge No. 47, at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Alexander Free Will Baptist Church.

Funeral Service for Jackie Lee Kaufman Sr. will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Revs. Dale Billingsley and Sam Ramdial officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Lindsey Cemetery in McClure.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lindsey Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
