ORAN, Mo. -- Calvin John LeGrand, 79, of Oran passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at his daughter's home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Feb. 9, 1938, in Oran to the late Zeno and Weldon Antonia Stike LeGrand.

Calvin was a retired dispatcher and operator for ICG Railroad Co.

He was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran. Calvin was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4311 in Oran.

He was an avid horseman. He enjoyed providing the horse- and wagon rides for the K.C. 4th of July Picnic in Oran and hosting friends and family at the farm. Calvin also loved playing pool at the K.C. Hall. As a side job, he delivered the daily newspaper for 40-plus years.

He is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Richard) Scherer of Benton, Missouri, and Lorena (Steven) Gebhardt of Oran; two brothers, Ronnie LeGrand of Dexter, Missouri, and Sam LeGrand of Cape Girardeau; four sisters, Judith King of Oran, Betty Stewart of Clinton, Mississippi, Arlene Harrell of Chaffee, Missouri, and Sandy Hahn of Oran; and eight grandchildren, Dylan, Gage, Reece and Jude Scherer and Shelby, Dustin, Samuel and Sophia Gebhardt. He also is survived by a godmother and aunt, Arabella Stike of Cape Girardeau.

He also was preceded in death by one brother, Norman LeGrand, and two sisters, Ruth Ann Urhahn and Marilyn Diebold.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. Parish prayers will be at 4 p.m., followed by a K.C. prayer service.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Guardian Angel Catholic Church, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop as celebrant. Burial will be at Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery in Oran.
