Jesse Williams Sr., 86, of Jackson passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at his home.

He was born April 19, 1931, in Summersville, Missouri, son of Martin Luther and Eva Jane Barnett Williams. He and Minnie Marie Deimund were married July 7, 1950, in Piggott, Arkansas.

Jesse was a member of County Line Baptist Church.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Nov. 8, 1948, and was honorably discharged Dec. 6, 1951.

He worked a number of years for Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau. He was a carpenter with numerous local homebuilders and continued his skills after retirement as a self-employed carpenter. Jesse enjoyed making various stringed musical instruments and over the years created over 300 violins and dulcimers. His other talents include making turkey calls, vegetable gardening and beekeeping.

Loving survivors include his wife of 67 years, Minnie Williams; a son, Jesse (Pat) Williams Jr. of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Cynthia (Gary) Dudley Sr. and Juanita (Dan) Copeland, both of Jackson; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

The visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dan Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with military honors.

The family suggests contributions be made to SoutheastHEALTH Foundation Cancer Fund.
