William Sanford, 89, of Scott City, born Feb. 7, 1928, in Ancell, Missouri, died Jan. 24, 2018, at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Sanford retired from the Marquette Cement Plant in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of the Cornerstone Wesleyan Church of Scott City.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Maxine Sanford (nee Taylor); his parents, William and Nancy Sanford; his sisters, Grace (Herman) Bodenstein, Ruby (Pete) Rudy, Imogene (Watts) Hester, Norma (Glenn) Crites and two infant sisters; and brothers, James (Laura Mae) Sanford, Rufus (Ethyl) Sanford, Harvey (Mary) Sanford; and other family and friends.

Surviving are his three children, Barbara (Larry) Spiers, Steve (Brenda) Sanford and Rebecca (Jim) Dattilo; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Sanford attended Fornfelt Public School and was a high-school graduate of The American School. He enjoyed fishing with his family at his pond. He had a passion for building and creating improved methods and implements for feeding and watering his livestock. He enjoyed serving as an alderman for Ancell, spending time with his family and traveling with his wife, Maxine, to visit their out-of-town children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Cornerstone Wesleyan Church of Scott City. A Celebration of Life will be at 1 p.m., with Pastor Tommy Miller officiating. Interment will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.

Memorials may be made to the Cornerstone Wesleyan Church of Scott City.
