FROHNA, Mo. -- Vernon Arthur Grebing, 88, of Frohna died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born in Frohna on Dec. 8, 1929. He married Helen Weinhold on Dec. 20, 1953. They were married for 64 years. She survives in Frohna.

Vernon was an electronics instructor with the Air Force at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. He served from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 133.

He and his brother, Milton Grebing, were grade A dairy farmers from 1949 to 1987, and then he was a crop and beef farmer thereafter. He served on the Perry County Industrial Development Authority in the 1980s, which was instrumental in bringing TG Industries to Perryville, Missouri.

Vernon was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna, where he served in various leadership and board positions through the decades.

He loved his large extended family events, holidays and celebrations. So to make those large gatherings possible, he built his beloved "Barn Yard" shed and lake.

Besides his wife, survivors include two daughters and three sons, Carol (Duke) Duggan of Jackson; Alan (Sara) Grebing of Frohna; David (Robin) Grebing of St. Charles, Missouri; Glenn (June) Grebing of Columbia, Illinois; and Jennifer (Ted) Uhlenhop of Andover, Kansas; two sisters, Dorothy Lichtenegger of Jackson and Laverne (Butch) Mirly of Monrovia, California; two sisters-in-law, Dorene Grebing of Perryville and Dorothy Weinhold of Brazeau, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Ken Weinhold of St. Louis; nine grandchildren, Aaron, Jesse and Ben Grebing, Shannon Duggan, Claire Grebing, Grace, Allison, Maggie and Will Uhlenhop, and a stepgranddaughter, Megyn Adkison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond and Milton Grebing; a sister, Ruth Bremer; three brothers-in-law, Floyd Lichtenegger, Robert Weinhold and Willis Bremer; and two sisters-in-law, Millie Grebing and Evelyn Weinhold.

Visitation will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 6:30 to 10 a.m. Monday. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Rod Benkendorf officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside service provided by the American Legion and Delta Team.

Memorials are preferred for Concordia Lutheran Church, United Christ Lutheran School or the American Diabetes Association.
