MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Gene Mayfield, 69, of Marble Hill passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at the family farm.

He was born April 20, 1948, in Scopus, Missouri, son of Rusby and Idell Long Mayfield. He and Jeannie Pulliam were united in marriage Feb. 14, 1980.

Gene worked for Procter & Gamble for 29 and a half years in the warehouse along with raising cattle. He was a member of the Cape Girardeau County Cowboy Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannie of Marble Hill; son, Christopher Mayfield of Cape Girardeau; daughters, Pam Taylor of Marble Hill and Jennifer (Larry) Reed of Memphis, Tennessee; brothers, Larry (Barbara) Mayfield of Marble Hill and Gary (Mary Lee) Mayfield of Osage Beach, Missouri; grandchildren, Lela Payne of Colorado and Zachary Payne of Minnesota; and great-grandchildren, Natalie and Emica Payne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rusby "Junior" Mayfield; and sister, Ruth Ann Mayfield.

Visitation was Saturday and funeral service was Sunday at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating. Interment was in Pulliam Cemetery near Marble Hill.
