The property at 161 West Drive in Cape Girardeau housed a Denny�s Diner until Wednesday, when a �Closed for Business� sign appeared on an exterior door.

The property was purchased by Shogun Steakhouse on March 15, according to Cape Girardeau County Recorder of Deeds Drew Blattner, who said the document was recorded March 19.

Amani Investment, a California company according to the deed of trust, sold the property to Shogun Steakhouse for $1.2 million.

Blattner said that amount does not necessarily indicate the full amount of the project.

The property is under contract, according to the online listing at www.crexi.com.

The listing was updated Jan. 26.

David Saverin, real estate broker with Marcus & Millichap, is listing broker.

Saverin said he was not able to comment on details of the sale when reached by phone Friday.

Charlene Lopez, senior operations manager with WKS Restaurant Group, the franchisee that owned and operated Denny�s in Cape Girardeau, sent a company statement Friday afternoon on behalf of the senior management team.

�Effective March 21, Sunrise Restaurants LLC permanently closed its Denny�s in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. It was a difficult business decision because it impacts the lives of not only our employees, but our guests,� she said in the statement. �We thank the Cape Girardeau team and community for their support. Sunrise has made transfer opportunities available to employees who wish to move to another of our locations.�
