A crew installs fiber-optic cable for Charter Communications on Tuesday over Sloan Creek along Big Bend Road in Cape Girardeau. Construction of a new bridge over the Mississippi River tributary could start next month. It will be funded by the city's Transportation Trust Fund 5 sales tax approved by voters in 2015. During the four-month-long construction period, the old Main Street floodgate and bridge will be reopened for local traffic.
