Cape police, major case squad investigate two shooting deaths at apartment complex

Cape Girardeau police and the major case squad are investigating two deaths following a shooting Wednesday morning at Cape Meadows apartments.

Police received a call at 10:28 a.m. that a man had been shot in the back at 507 Cape Meadows Circle. The victim was taken by private vehicle to Southeast Hospital before police arrived, said police public information officer Sgt. Rick Schmidt.

The man later died, Schmidt said.

During the investigation, a second victim was found shot to death inside an apartment at 516 Cape Meadows, he said.

Police recovered a gun in a grassy area between the 507 and 516 apartment buildings, Schmidt said.

The names of the victims have not been released.
