Victims identified in Cape shootings

The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad today released the names of two men who were fatally shot Wednesday at a local apartment complex.

They were identified as Quincy R. Lucious III, 18, of St. Louis, and Leslie C. Williams, 20, of Cape Girardeau.

Cape Girardeau police received a report 10:28 a.m. Wednesday that a person had been shot near 507 Cape Meadows Circle. When police arrived, they could not find a victim.

Police learned the man, Lucious, had been taken by private ambulance to Southeast Hospital. He was dead by the time police arrived at the hospital, police public information officer Sgt., Rick Schmidt said. He added that he did not know if Lucious died en route to the hospital.

While police were investigating the scene in the 500 block of Cape Meadows Circle, officers discovered a second shooting victim, identified as Williams, according to a news release from the Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad.

The major case squad was activated Wednesday and continues its investigation.

A gun was recovered in a grassy area between the 507 and 516 apartment buildings, Schmidt said.

An individual was handcuffed and transported from the scene in a police car, Schmidt said Wednesday, but added that the individual had not been named as a suspect or person of interest.
