Vergie Mae Kies, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, June 4, 2018, at Monticello House in Jackson.
She was born Oct. 16, 1925, in Holcomb, Missouri, to Edward and Selma Summers Eakins. She and David Kies Sr. were married Dec. 7, 1943, at Benton, Missouri.
She was a lifelong member of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau.
Vergie was first employed by Himmelberger-Harrison Lumber Co. in Cape Girardeau as a secretary. Later, she was employed by MFA in Jackson as the bookkeeper. From there, she went to the RGIS Inventory team until her retirement.
Survivors include a son, David (Diane) Kies Jr.; two brothers, Claude and Scott Eakins; three sisters, Rosemary Dryer, Louella Fiegel and Omadell Clark; three grandchildren, Tiffney Kies Smith, Todd Kies and Liana Kies; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son, Michael Kies.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Schaffner officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to Southeast Hospice.
