CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Thelma Lea Baker Stone, 94, of Chaffee died Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at her home.

She was born Dec. 30, 1923, to the Rev. Charles R. and Mary E. Baker in Bourbon, Missouri. Rev. Baker was appointed to the Methodist Church in Piedmont, Missouri, and that is where Thelma spent her childhood and teenage years until she and George F. Stone of Chaffee married April 7, 1940.

Thelma devoted her life to her family and to being a homemaker. She was a skilled cook, dressmaker, quilter and craftsperson. She loved learning, American history, music, movies, gardening, travel and playing Monopoly and Clue with her grandchildren. She was an encyclopedia of trivia and history. She will be missed by family and friends who relied on her to know facts and details. She was active in the United Methodist Women, PEO, DAR and various quilt organizations. Perhaps the accomplishment of which she was most proud, other than her children, was her achievement of The American Quilter's Society certification as a Quilt Appraiser in 1990. She lived a long life, sometimes easy, sometimes encountering adversity. She always handled the difficult without complaints and often referred to herself as a "tough old bird."

Thelma is survived by her children, Mary Morman, James (Nancy) Stone and Ruth (Donald) Schulte; grandchildren, Christian Schulte, Matthew Schulte, Jordan Stone, Sean Stone and Stephen Morman; special niece Bertie Robert; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Baker; her husband, George F. Stone; four brothers, Joseph, Charles, Leslie and Samuel Baker; four sisters, Ethel Baker, Mabel Sample, Lucille May and Jane Barnes; two grandchildren, Kenneth Stone and Jennifer Morman; and a son-in-law, Bill Morman.
