SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Avalon Isabel Tannehill, 84, of Springfield died Monday, June 18, 2018.
She was born March 10, 1934, in Minneapolis to Archie and Isabel Stevenson Comstock.
Avalon was a member of Southern View Chapel. She was a very loving, devoted mother; was very social; and never knew a stranger. She had a passion for traveling and experiencing different cultures and was quite an adventurer, having zip-lined, para-sailed and hot air-ballooned.
Avalon worked for 44 years for Illinois Bell Telephone.
She was the mother of five children: Gayla Cheffy of Chatham, Illinois, Gene (Janet) Tannehill of Springfield, the late Margaret Tannehill, Duane Tannehill of Springfield and Stephanie (Hunter) Clark of Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Margaret Ann Tannehill; and her companion of 20 years, Harold Neece.
A memorial gathering will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Southern View Chapel.
Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with Pastor Brian Gilley officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the John Wayne Cancer and Research Center, Southern View Chapel or the Animal Protective League.
