Jerome Monroe Ziegler, 79, of Jackson passed away Friday, June 29, 2018, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
One of nine children, he was born Nov. 25, 1938, in Benton, Missouri, to John and Coletta Scherer Ziegler.
He attended St. Denis Catholic School in Benton. He met his future wife, Berniece Beussink, at a 1958 wedding in Leopold, Missouri. They were married April 23, 1960, at St. John�s Catholic Church in Leopold.
Jerome worked at the former shoe factory in Chaffee, Missouri. In 1979, he established Ziegler Plumbing and Heating in Jackson, retiring in 1998.
He was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and K.C. Council 6405, both in Jackson. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and was a founding member of the Lucky 11 Hunting Cabin. He also enjoyed playing euchre and croquet, and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball.
Loving survivors include his wife of 58 years, Berniece Ziegler of Jackson; four children, Becky (Mike) Kirby of Jackson, Tammy (the late David) VanGennip of Advance, Missouri, Rick (Kathy) Ziegler of Jackson and Nancy (Bryan) Greaser of Cape Girardeau; 10 grandchildren, Trent (Cammie) Essner of Jackson, Heather Kluesner (Lucas Cook) of Jackson, Tyler (Maryssa) Essner of Advance, David (Taylor) VanGennip II of Advance, Darren (Sydney) VanGennip of Advance, Jason Kirby of Springfield, Missouri, Allison and Anna Ziegler of Jackson and Sierra and Brooklyn Greaser of Cape Girardeau; five great-grandchildren, Riley Kluesner, Paxton and Finley Essner and Blaine and Beau VanGennip; and four siblings, Josephine (Kenny) Terry of Florida, Laverne (the late Henry) Heuring of Benton, Joyce (Jerry) Schilling of Texas and Geri (Don) Riley of Blodgett, Missouri; and a brother-in-law, Larry (the late Mary) Horrell of Chaffee, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ziegler; a son-in-law, David VanGennip; two grandchildren, Amber Kirby and Ricky Ziegler; and four siblings, Harold (Doris) Ziegler, Irma (Robert �Bob�) Beussink, Johnny Ziegler and Mary Horrell.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson. Deacon Walter Biri will lead parish prayers at 7 p.m., immediately followed with a rosary led by the Knights of Columbus.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with celebrant Father John Harth. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Church Building Fund of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
