Virginia R. Poston, 96, of Cape Girardeau passed away peacefully Monday, July 9, 2018, at Life Care Center.

She was born Sept. 8, 1921, in Cape Girardeau to Frank and Josephine Nenninger Hohler. She and Lynn Poston were married Aug. 7, 1939, at Cape Girardeau.

She worked at St. Mary Cathedral School and Notre Dame High School as a cook. The students all knew and greeted "Mrs. Poston." They knew "Mr. Poston," too, as the custodian, groundskeeper and keeper of all the student misdeeds, with admonishment "not to do them again."

She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and St. Mary's Cathedral Ladies Auxiliary. She had a strong faith and a close relationship with the Blessed Virgin. Her faith and prayers got her through the tough times. She was literally born into St. Mary's Parish, as her father was the custodian of the church, and they lived on the premises when she was a young girl. She was a member of St. Mary's Parish for nearly 97 years.

Survivors include her five sons, Jim (Marilyn) Poston of Cape Girardeau, John (Billy Degrant) Poston of Cape Girardeau, Tom (Jane) Poston of Omaha, Nebraska, Larry (Sharon) Poston of Fair Oaks, California, and David Poston of Cape Girardeau; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
