TAMMS, Ill. Terry Lee Honey, 66, of Tamms went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, July 14, 2018.

He was born March 24, 1952, in Cairo, Illinois, to Earl and Jewel Phillips Honey. He married Rachel Horton on July 27, 1974, in Hawthorne, California.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel, and two daughters, Christina VanAlstine and Karen Dale; two sons-in-law, Lee VanAlstine and Blake Dale; his brother, Gary Honey; and six grandchildren, Alexa, Madison, Kai and Bryn VanAlstine and Samuel and Annabeth Dale. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Jewel Honey; and four of his brothers, Delmar Red Honey, Douglas Doug Honey, Darrell Bud Honey and Glenn Earl Honey.

Terrys love of farming and antique tractors began in childhood on the family farm, where his childhood task was to deliver chicken eggs to neighbors and the local store for barter. The youngest of six boys, he spent most of his childhood outside working on the farm and enjoying the countryside near Tamms, which he later said was his favorite place.

He served in the Marines from 1972 to 1974. While stationed at Camp Pendleton, California, he took a charmed trip to Disneyland where he met his beloved while standing in line at the Matterhorn Mountain. Terry was later stationed at Okinawa, Japan, for a year, during which time he and Rachel engaged in a long-distance love-letter romance. After returning to the States, they married and settled back in Tamms, where he and three of his brothers operated a service station.

Terry was devoted to his grandchildren and passed on his knowledge of checkers and fishing. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his sweet corn with friends and neighbors. He was a dedicated member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church and loved the Bible. His kindness, humor and smile will be missed. Until we meet again ...
