Roy and Selena Hartle of Scott City recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an Alaskan cruise. The couple visited an Army friend of Roy's, whom he had not seen in 50 years, and his wife in Vancouver, Washington. The four of them went on the cruise together.

Selena and Roy met when she was in junior high school at Scott City and he was in high school at Perryville, Missouri. Roy went into the U.S. Army in 1966 and after training, was eventually sent to Germany. After Selena graduated from high school in 1968, she flew to Germany where she and Roy were married. They visited many places throughout central Europe.

Roy completed his military service in fall of 1969, and they returned to the United States. A year later, their first son, Roy Jr., was born and 10 years later another son, Greg, was born. The couple has made its home in Scott City since 1969.

Selena was the owner/operator of Hartle's Art Plaster and Gifts store in Cape Girardeau for 20 years. Roy was an art teacher for about 35 years. He taught at Webb Junior High School in East Prairie, Missouri; Delta School, Scott City Schools, Kelso C-7 in Benton, Missouri, and St. Paul Lutheran School in Jackson. The couple also owned and operated the Movie Max Videos and Tanning Stores in Scott City, Chaffee, Missouri, Advance, Missouri, and Fruitland for more than 10 years. Selena worked for seven years as a cashier at Wal-Mart in Cape Girardeau, and Roy worked part-time for the Southeast Missourian and Preferred Family Health Care before retiring.
