Rosetta 'Mickey' Holyfield

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Rosetta M. "Mickey" Holyfield, 83, a life-long resident of Sikeston, died Saturday, July 21, 2018, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

She was born Nov. 1, 1934, in Sikeston to the late Foncie and Rena Reeves Poe. She was married to Henry J. "Cotton" Holyfield on Sept. 3, 1949, in Piggott, Arkansas, and he preceded her in death Feb. 15, 2006.

Mickey had been a teller at the Bank of Sikeston and had later worked at First State Community Bank in Cape Girardeau. Along with her husband, Cotton, she owned the Holyfield Flying Service for 27 years, and from 1968 to 1978 helped manage the Sikeston Municipal Airport.

A longtime member of Chapter No. 137 Order of the Eastern Star, she had held many local offices as well as the district deputy grand matron twice, worthy matron twice and grand representative of Oklahoma. She was a member of Sikeston Elks Lodge No. 3319. She was also a member of Hunter Memorial Presbyterian Church and an avid Cardinals fan.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Butch and Tara Holyfield of Scott City; two granddaughters, Shelley Eckelmann of House Springs, Missouri, and Alyssa Groeteke of St. Peters, Missouri; two stepgrandsons, Canden Conner and Kalen Conner, both of Scott City; two great-granddaughters, Haley Layne Eckelmann of House Springs and Autumn Rose Groeteke of St. Peters; one brother, Don Poe of Sikeston; one brother-in-law, Carl Holyfield Jr. of Sikeston; and one special adopted daughter, Jill Fetters of Sikeston.

Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, Rickie Lee Holyfield, and one brother, Zural Satterfield.

Visitation will from 4 p.m. until time of Eastern Star Rites at 7:30 p.m. today at Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Mark Anderson, pastor of Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Brewer, Jim Brewer, Randy Grant, Dennis McGarity, David Fetters and Nelson Guth.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the American Lung Association or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
