John W. Piper, 78, of Whitewater passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018, at his home. He was born May 5, 1940, in Tilsit to Herbert M. and Hazel Estes Piper. He and Judith L. Albert were married June 11, 1961, at Cape Girardeau. John worked for Campbell Mattress factory for 50 years, retiring in 2014. He then worked for the Missouri Conservation Department at Cape County Park for two years...

John W. Piper, 78, of Whitewater passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018, at his home.

He was born May 5, 1940, in Tilsit to Herbert M. and Hazel Estes Piper. He and Judith L. Albert were married June 11, 1961, at Cape Girardeau.

John worked for Campbell Mattress factory for 50 years, retiring in 2014. He then worked for the Missouri Conservation Department at Cape County Park for two years.

He was a member of Cape Community Church of God, formerly West Side Church of God. He also coached girls and boys basketball at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Judith L. Piper of Whitewater; three daughters, Kimberly Piper of Cape Girardeau and Lori (James) Williams and Rebecca Piper, both of Whitewater; two sisters, Marglee Talley of Cape Girardeau and Emma Woodall of Seattle; a brother, Miles Piper Jr. of Scott City; four grandchildren, Lyndse (David) Fluchel, Kaycee (fiance, Kennith Pitts) Hamby, Levi Williams and Evan Williams; great-grandson, Layton Fluchel; stepgrandchildren, Chelsea Williams and James Williams; and two great-stepgrandchildren, Jaxon Fluchel and Amirah Weathers.

His grandchildren and his great-grandson were his world. If there was one thing he did perfectly, it was being a grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark William Piper; sister, Sally McClard; and three brothers, George and Herman Piper and one at birth.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Roger Christiansen officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Cape Community Church of God or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
