MILLER CITY, Ill. -- Doris Ronnebeck Dickerson, 94, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, at Monticello House in Jackson, where she had resided for the last five years.

Doris was a lifelong resident of Alexander County, Illinois, and had lived in the Miller City area her entire life.

Doris was born Sept. 11, 1924, the daughter of the late John and Zada Smithey Ronnebeck. She was married Dec. 21, 1948, to James Andrew "Jim Andy" Dickerson, who preceded her in death Jan. 13, 1991.

As a farmer's wife, Doris was an avid weather watcher and was especially knowledgeable about the flood stages of both the Ohio and Mississippi. She kept a journal for many years in which she documented the rise and fall of the two rivers. She knew which of their farm fields would be flooded when the rivers reached a certain stage. Many times their crops were lost to floodwater, but the flood of 2011 was the only one ever reaching her home. She lost her home and all its contents that year. As a lifelong member of Lake Milligan Baptist Church, her faith got her through these difficult times.
