James David Cantrell, 86, of Jackson passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, at his home.

He was born Jan. 29, 1932, in Leora, Missouri, son of Robert and Lettie Malone Cantrell. He and Roma Hoskins were married Feb. 13, 1952, in Laramie, Wyoming.

James worked in the St. Louis area as a mechanic for International Harvester and was transferred to Cape Girardeau 42 years ago. The highlights of his life were mowing the yard with his riding mower, tinkering with his tools in his garage and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of 66 years, Roma Cantrell of Jackson, loving survivors include four children, Karen (Mike) Morgan of Jonesboro, Illinois, Bonnie (Kevin) Wooden of East Alton, Illinois, Kenneth (Ginny) Cantrell of West Africa and John (Becky) Cantrell of Jackson; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant granddaughter, Jessica Cantrell; four brothers; and four sisters.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Terry Russell officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

The family suggests contributions be made to the donor's church or charity of choice.
