Dorothy Axelson

Dorothy B. Axelson, 94, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.

She was born Dec. 18, 1923, in Barlow, Kentucky, to Arthur and Edith Talley Meredith. She and Albert Axelson were married in Mounds, Illinois.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cairo, Illinois, where she taught Sunday school for 40 years and was the office secretary for many years.

Survivors include her two daughters, Vicki (Dr. Jeffrey) Patton of Cape Girardeau and Janet (Ed) Pirtle of Memphis, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Amy (Greg Jr.) Young of Cape Girardeau, Jillian (Rick) Davis of Cape Girardeau, Raelyn Pirtle of Atoka, Tennessee, and Brian (Kristi) Pirtle of Atoka; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Long officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Illinois.

Memorial contributions may be given to Saint Francis Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
