McCLURE, Ill. -- Joseph David Cunningham, 72, of McClure died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born April 29, 1946, in Cape Girardeau to Jess and Evelyn Hopper Cunningham. He and Nancy Lee Colyer were married Dec. 10, 1963, at Cape Girardeau.

He served in the Seabees Navy Construction Battalion in the Vietnam War.

He was a heavy-equipment operator with International Union of Operating Engineers Local 318 and also helped build the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge in Cape Girardeau.

He was a member of Word of Faith Fellowship Church, where he was deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Lee Cunningham of McClure; two daughters, LeeAnn (Kevin) Borgmeyer of High Ridge, Missouri, and Jessica Lee (Troy) Dwyer of Eugene, Oregon; a brother, Ronnie (Linda) Cunningham of Cape Girardeau; sister-in-law, Tammy Lee (Darrell) Burton of Jackson; brother and sister in Christ, Don and Susan Henson of Cape Girardeau; and faithful companion, Faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don Cunningham.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will follow at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Don Henson officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be at Lindsey Cemetery in McClure.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
