Lee Roy Frank Brown, 84, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at Monticello House.

He was born Nov. 16, 1934, in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, to Otis Elmer and Beulah Mae Gastineau Brown Sr. Lee Roy married Wilma Attile Phillips on Dec. 11, 1954, at New Bethel Baptist Church. They had been married nearly 60 years when Wilma passed away Oct. 28, 2014.

Lee Roy attended the former High Hill School. He worked many years at the shoe factory in Jackson and was the fifth hiree of Procter & Gamble. Later he became a manager, retiring in 1991.

Because Lee Roy was knowledgeable in many areas, he had a knack for making interesting conversation. He had a special talent for writing poetry and gospel, country and bluegrass songs. He was a former alderman for the City of Jackson and a member of the Missouri Area Bluegrass Committee.

Loving survivors include two children, Dennis E. (Terri) Brown of Oak Ridge and Debbie (Dennis) Welker of Marble Hill, Missouri; five grandchildren, Joni Brown (David Warren) of Scott City, Jeffery (Robin) Brown of Jackson, Andrew (Tara) Welker of Marble Hill, Carrie (Jeremy) Spooler of Jackson and Jeromy Pair of Cape Girardeau; four brothers, Elmer (Shirley) Brown Jr. of Scott City, Albert (Marie) Brown of Shawneetown, Charles (June) Brown of rural Jackson and Guy (Sandy) Brown of Gordonville; brother-in-law, Jim (the late Susie) James of Jackson; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Brown; sister, Elsie Mae "Susie" James; and an infant sibling.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Elijah Allen officiating. Burial will follow at New Bethel Baptist Cemetery near Pocahontas.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to New Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
