Good call, mayor

Jackson Mayor Hahs' pet project of straightening the East Main and Oakhill will now be justified once Center Junction is closed. That $480,000 was well spent, and will handle the diverted traffic quite well.

Voss is right

John Voss, a member of the Cape Tax Advisory Committee, has common sense regarding not spending more money on the Veterans Memorial Drive. There is hardly any traffic on this drive, and it is nonsense to spend additional money on this street. Please spend money on our bad streets and the many potholes.

Ross is wrong

It seems Ms. Ross misses a point, or several, in her column about the Fourth of July. First and foremost, this country was formed in protest. And our founding fathers guaranteed that right with the Constitution. Sorry it doesn't happen at the time, place, and way you prefer. Accusing people of wanting "open borders" is its own version of fake news. Literally, that phrase has only been used as an accusation for those who don't believe in the beautiful wall. You can't actually find anyone who has formally advocated "open borders." It's not the wall or nothing. And "love it or leave it" is so 1960s. No, the patriotic American response is to fight for change. See the first point!

Close the junction

I wholeheartedly support MoDOT's plan to close Highway 61 during the construction at Center Junction. Saving the state millions is more important than me having to drive a couple extra miles in either direction. Jackson and Cape leadership and chambers of commerce have pushed for millions on the East Main Street interchange, Veterans Drive outer road, etc. and it's time for them to be used.

Railroaded

With all the problems the DuQuoin State Fair is having, canceling a country music act "Confederate Railroad" is not a smart move. I will not be attending the fair this year because of this act by the fair board. Political correctness can be political suicide.
