Edward McKinley Kaiser Sr., 95, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, July 15, 2019, at Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born March 23, 1924, in Flint, Michigan, to William McKinley and Edna Southers Kaiser. He and Sina Cox were married Feb. 7, 1948, at Essex, Missouri. She preceded him in death April 30, 2015.
He served in the Army, where he earned two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He went in the second wave of Normandy under Gen. George Patton, through the Europe campaign to Berlin and assisted in the liberation in the Dachau concentration camp. He was one of the first men to go in the north gate of Dachau, watching the Germans' backs as they left the south gate.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans and was an honorary member of Cape Girardeau Rotary Club.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his two daughters, Deborah (Eric) Ebaugh of Cape Girardeau and Sina Ann (Stephen) Miesner of Ballwin, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Melinda Kaiser of Springfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren, William H. (Megan) York, Sarah Elizabeth (Matt) Watson, Christopher E. York, Clayton G. (Amanda) Agnew, Sina J. (Jason) Sperling, Edward M. (Melissa) Kaiser III, Lisa Long and Dr. Eric Ebaugh; 13 great-grandchildren, Katy Anne Watson, Hunter McKinley Kaiser, Brixton Matthew Watson, Mylie Ann Kaiser, Jack Edward Kaiser, Cooper McKinley Sperling, Harper Lillian Sperling, Keegan Long, Addison Long, Margaret Marie York, William Henry York, Layla Brooke Agnew and Cheyenne Grace Agnew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Edward M. Kaiser Jr.; two brothers, Don and Glen Kaiser; and an infant sister.
There will be no visitation, and service will be private. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to Missouri Veterans Home.
