George Renick, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, July 26, 2019, fortified by the sacrament of the sick, at Ratliff Care Center, surrounded by his loving family.

George was born July 15, 1944, in Wildwood, New Jersey, to William F. and Beverly M. Finnigan Renick. He grew up in St. Louis.

George and Donna Venegoni were married May 17, 1969, at St. Anthony of Padua Church in St. Louis.

The Renicks moved to Apple Valley, Minnesota, in 1975, where George worked as a salesman for Wohl Shoe Co. In 1982, the family purchased Simes Shoe Store in Clinton, Missouri. In August of 1989, they moved to Cape Girardeau to become the owners and operators of Naturalizer Shoe Store. He later worked as a salesman for Clean Uniform Co. and U.S. Pallets.

George was a longtime announcer for the Cape Senior Legion, Capahas and Notre Dame High School baseball and softball teams. He was an avid sports enthusiast, playing “one yard plunge” with his brother John, coaching youth baseball, and playing pick-up games with his kids and others in the neighborhood. He had a knack for remembering historical facts, particularly from the World War II era. His love of music included playing the trombone in grade school, listening to a variety of music from Motown to classic country, and following the music careers of his children. His family and grandchildren have fond memories of his wit and playful sense of humor. George was the family’s “Google” and never knew a stranger.
