ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. -- James Douglas Harris II, 55, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2019, at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.

He was born Oct. 27, 1963, in Clinton, Kentucky, to James Douglas Harris and Sandra Janiece Fraser. He and Laura Dillon were married Aug. 28, 2008, at Elizabethtown.

He was an AR readiness training instructor, was in the military reserves and had been a member of the Cairo, Illinois, Police Department and the FBI Drug Task Force. He served two tours in Iraq during Desert Storm. He was also a proud member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA).

He served 37 years in the U.S. Army and had recently retired from the service.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Harris of Rineyville, Kentucky; mother, Sandra Lemons of Jackson; one daughter, Janiece Carter of Woodbridge, Virginia; two sons, James Harris III of Woodbridge and William Harris of Woodbridge; two sisters, Tammy (Fred) Elias of Cape Girardeau and Cheryl (Greg) Keith of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Kevin (Tina) Harris of Cape Girardeau, Josh (Tess) Armstrong of Sierra Vista, Arizona, and Ryan (Becca) Armstrong of Elizabethtown; one stepson, Josh Mayberry of Greenville, Indiana; one stepdaughter, Tasha Mayberry of St. Louis; six grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

Visitation was held Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Service was held Sunday at the funeral home with full military honors and with the Rev. Jim Ellis officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given to CVMA Kentucky 1-2.
