Michael Wandrick, 93, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at Lutheran Home.

He was born Sept. 30, 1925, to Michael and Mary Vidlicka Wandrick of Jenkins Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

After graduating from Stafford County High School in Virginia, in May 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Sept. 17 of that year. He served aboard the USS Princeton light aircraft carrier in the Philippines as a pilot, flying a Grumman TBM torpedo bomber.

After the war, he went to work for the Civil Aeronautics Administration, working for them for more than 38 years. He started as a tower controller in Advance, Missouri, and ended up as a control tower manager at the office headquarters in Los Angeles. While working in Advance, he met and married Millicent Virgina Pittman in 1949.

Retiring in 1980, the family moved to Cape Girardeau.

He is survived by a brother, Charles; sister, Kay; son, Michael James Wandrick; grandson, Jeffrey Lloyd; granddaughter, Stacy Lee (Lloyd) Wathem; and five great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Michael and Mary Wandrick; wife, Millie Wandrick; daughter, Jacqueline; brothers, Jack "John" Nicholas, George and Daniel; and sisters, Mary, Helen, Anna and Julia.

A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Interment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.
