Martin W. Roberts, 85, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 10, 1934, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Jack and Kathryn Snow Roberts. Martin and Inez Statesel were married Sept. 21, 1957, in Raytown, Missouri.

Martin entered the U.S. Navy in 1952. He served as a gunner's mate first class on Navy destroyers. He was deployed to Korea and then served seven tours in Vietnam.

He and Inez had two children, and the family resided in several California coastal cities. Before his retirement, his last shore duty assignment was at the Naval Reserve Office in Cape Girardeau. He and Inez liked the area and made their home in Jackson. Martin then worked 23 years as a foreman for Southeast Stone Rock Quarry in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1996.

Martin and Inez were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. Martin enjoyed fishing and bowling, having bowled 22 years on the Tuesday Night Church League at Jackson Lanes.

Loving survivors include his wife of 62 years, Inez Roberts of Jackson; children, Rob (Judy) Roberts of Gordonville and Tamy (Rick) Rolfing of St. Louis; grandchildren, Tyler Hodge, Christopher (Elizabeth) Roberts, Laura (Doug) Jones, Courtney Rolfing, Aleigh Roberts and Rachel Rolfing; and great-granddaughter, Londyn Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Odis Roberts; sister, Marguerite Stevenson; and great-granddaughter, Bailey Jones.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joshua Schmidt officiating. Burial and military rites will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

The family suggests contributions to Alzheimer's Association.
