James H. "Tex" May Jr., 74, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 21, 1945, in St. Louis, son of the late James H. Sr. and Kathleen Locke May. On Dec. 11, 1964, at Vanduser, Missouri, he married Glendella Gossett May. She survives of the home in Scott City.

He was a cable-splicing technician for Southwestern Bell and AT&T before retiring.

James was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, Missouri; Elks Lodge in Chaffee, Missouri, where he was past exalted ruler; Knights of Columbus in Scott City, where he was fourth-degree, past grand knight and president of Columbus Club; and Communication Workers Union, where he was past president.

Other survivors include a son, James H. (Carrie) May III of Cape Girardeau; daughters, Sharlet (Roger) Giltner of Brookport, Illinois, and Amanda (Bill) Ponder of Kelso; sister, Susan (Gary) Mullen of Steelville, Missouri; grandchildren, Roger Giltner Jr., Joshua (Carly) Giltner, Katelin May, James H. May IV, Nylik Dunn, Olivia Ponder and Ella Ponder; and great-grandchildren, Sawyer Caneer and Annalie Giltner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John May, and sister, Lillie May.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Giltner, Roger Giltner Jr., James H. May IV, Nylik Dunn, Matt Holder, Tim Mullen, Bill Ponder and James H. May III.

Memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101.

Ponder Funeral Home of Sikeston, Missouri, is in charge of arrangements.
