Voren Robert "Bob" Blackwell, 92, of Cape Girardeau passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at Missouri Veterans Home, where he spent the last year and a half. He was born March 28, 1927, in Chaffee, Missouri, to Thomas and Mary Alice Craig Blackwell. He was one of 11 children. Bob and Elizabeth Lewis were married Sept. 15, 1950, in Piggott, Arkansas. Voren Robert "Bob" Blackwell, 92, of Cape Girardeau passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at Missouri Veterans Home, where he spent the last year and a half.

He was born March 28, 1927, in Chaffee, Missouri, to Thomas and Mary Alice Craig Blackwell. He was one of 11 children. Bob and Elizabeth Lewis were married Sept. 15, 1950, in Piggott, Arkansas. She preceded him in death Dec. 25, 2009.

Bob served in the U.S. Army. He served in the combat infantry in the 7th Calvary in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged June 23, 1952. He was awarded the Decorated Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, a Bronze Star Medal and two Purple Heart's.

After his military service, he worked at Midwest Dairy in Cape Girardeau and then as a truck driver. He enjoyed raising cattle and spending time with family.

Survivors include two sons, Robert M. (Barbara) Blackwell of Cape Girardeau and Mark L. (Brenda) Blackwell of Cape Girardeau; daughters, Debbie (Gene) Schlick of Fruitland and Sandy Blackwell of Cape Girardeau; sister, Nadiene Blackwell Blyze of Farmington, Missouri; grandchildren, Bobby, Jimmy, Tina, John-Derek, Lance, Sarah, Amy, Ashlee, Andrea and Amanda; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Christian, Drake, Allistor, Tyler, Caleb, Camden, Mark, Tristin, Alex and Alexia; and great-great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Corbin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Blackwell; three brothers; six sisters; and a son, Mike Blackwell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
