Ara Atlean Broach, 90, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, at Chaffee (Missouri) Nursing Home. She was born April 24, 1929, in Hazel, Kentucky, to the late Robert Holland and Dona Mae Taylor Witherspoon. Atlean was a member of United Church of God in Cape Girardeau. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed gardening, cooking and babysitting. Her family was everything to her, and she will be greatly missed...

Ara Atlean Broach, 90, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, at Chaffee (Missouri) Nursing Home.

She was born April 24, 1929, in Hazel, Kentucky, to the late Robert Holland and Dona Mae Taylor Witherspoon.

Atlean was a member of United Church of God in Cape Girardeau. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed gardening, cooking and babysitting. Her family was everything to her, and she will be greatly missed.

Loving survivors include sons, Joseph Broach of Cape Girardeau and Darrell Broach of Murray, Kentucky; daughters, Alice June (Marshall) Lyell of Union City, Tennessee, Debbie Jo (Dan) Bates of Hot Springs, California, Carolyn L. (Allen) Schumaker of Scott City and Mae Ruth Broach and Mary Ann Bailly, both of Cape Girardeau; brother, Jimmy C. (Brenda) Witherspoon of Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jack Broach; brothers, Cliff Ed, Elvis and Robert B. Witherspoon; and three sisters, Faye Scarbrough, Bonnie Royster and Helen Witherspoon.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with Neal Kinsey officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
