Daniel G. Penrod, 88, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020. He was born Jan. 25, 1932, in Murphysboro, Illinois, to the late George Washington and Laura Graff Penrod. Dan was a graduate of Murphysboro High School. He was trained as a painter by his father. Around 1956, he moved to Cape Girardeau and started Paramount Painting Co. He worked for Travelodge in the mid ’80s and ’90s. He built homes around the Cape Girardeau area from the early ’70s until 2016...

Daniel G. Penrod, 88, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020.

He was born Jan. 25, 1932, in Murphysboro, Illinois, to the late George Washington and Laura Graff Penrod.

Dan was a graduate of Murphysboro High School. He was trained as a painter by his father. Around 1956, he moved to Cape Girardeau and started Paramount Painting Co. He worked for Travelodge in the mid ’80s and ’90s. He built homes around the Cape Girardeau area from the early ’70s until 2016.

He was a charter member of La Croix United Methodist Church, where he was very active, serving on several committees, including the building committee. He was a member of the Harold O. Grauel No. 672 Lodge, was an avid Cardinals baseball fan and loved to play golf. He enjoyed cooking and grilling, loved Jesus and enjoyed being with his family and friends.

His loving survivors include his wife, Terri Penrod; children, Pam (Jay) Campbell of Kansas City, Missouri, Randy (Retta) Penrod of Murphysboro, Doug (Susan) Penrod of Troy, Illinois, and Kim (Alan) Wengert of Cape Girardeau; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Washington Penrod Jr.; and sisters, Celestine Yates, Doris Bloodworth and Prudence Huppert.

Visitation was held Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral was held Monday at La Croix United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ron Watts officiating. Burial followed at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to La Croix United Methodist Church.
