PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Michael D. "Mikey" Benton, 45, of Perryville died Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, at Saint Louis University Hospital.

He was born Dec. 2, 1974, in Cape Girardeau to Linda Lee Sweet.

Mikey graduated from Parkview State School.

He worked for United Enterprises Inc., the Perryville sheltered workshop. He was an active participant in Special Olympics for many years and the Southeast Missouri Angels Pageant in Scott City. He liked bowling and playing baseball.

Survivors include a sister, Sherry (Rory) Kirchhofer of Scott City; aunt, Helen Cook of Marble Hill, Missouri; uncle and aunt, Bob and Deanie Hadley of Cape Girardeau; cousin and special caretaker, Teresa (Ernie) Crump of Chaffee, Missouri; and numerous other cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Special Olympics.
